What does this suggestion change/add/remove:
A new job called "Mechanic" which would be used to repair doors and cars for Civilians, as the only surface job with a repair tool does not make much sense having it. Rangers are essentially combative engineers with them being the only civilian job with a repair tool. It would also add more RP for if a door is door charged and a mechanic has to go fix it instead of it just appearing back on the door frame.

Has something similar to this been suggested before? If so, why is your suggestion so different?:
Not to my knowledge, but if it has my thought process is also to remove the "Surface Combat Engineer" from surface, reducing them to a regular ranger force.

Possible Positives of the Suggestion:
During events, people could become civilians and work on doing some more surface events, especially if it involves:
Racing (somehow)
Non-Surface SCPs on Surface

It could also eliminate the constant NEED for a tech expert to go to surface with the potential of running away and enable DEA or Nu-7 to call a civilian medic for anything outside of the garage if anything is damaged.

Possible negatives of the suggestion:
It could be abused when a surface SCP comes around and tries to destroy vehicles like Humvees, BTRs, or LAVs.
Might not be an overly popular job

Based on the Positives & Negatives, why should this suggestion be accepted?:
While it can lead to certain issues with people, it does enable more unique Roleplay Potential with surface. It also would help with explaining why things get fixed on surface more often. This also gets rid of what is, in essence, a combat engineer, which was said to never be added to the server. The ranger is a thing to point at to show that this is one of those "Exceptions" that make less sense. Because while this job is a combative at heart, it also has the makings of an engineer.

I agree that civilians could use a way to repair cars but I don't think an entire new job is necessary ("job bloat" as the kids call it) and the idea of civilian autonomy where they don't need a surrounding factions' help with things like repairs and meds is interesting until you realize that theres no point in giving civs these things because no one will play civilian anyways, its simply easier to have "fun" sitting above medbay afk as a combat medic (This is considered rp to 80% of civil players)

I know its shit to look at it this way but its the sad truth, unless some kind of profitable or murderous cycle is added to civilians the modern civil player simply won't have the patience to put up with it (and being honest since no one else will I won't either)
