(Senior) Exec. Researcher, Ethics Committee Assistant, E-11 SPC

2x E-11 CSG, DEA Senior Agent (held both)

Have you received any kicks/bans/warning? and why?:
None.

Why are you applying for Director of Research?:
Since becoming an Executive Researcher, I have been trying to better the quality of RSD, its research and the roleplay around it wherever I was able to. The current state of Research is that of a person who wants to make a change in his life but is unable to decide and thus does not better anything at all. This, together with the lacking communication between Jr. Staff and Research Command, makes a recipe for disaster waiting to ruin it. As DoR, letting Jr. Personnel inside Research take part in important decisions could instead lead to greater morale inside the department as well as better decision making when taking the opinion of our Jr. Staff into account. Another point would be rewards not only for good documents but for unique tests with great roleplay as well which will promote a better test quality and improve the roleplay that Research is lacking in its current state. This would lead to more roleplay being done atleast on a more consistent level which would improve the state of Research as a whole in a major way. The position of Director of Research would give me the possibility of implementing not only these changes but others in accordance with the other DoR as well as all Executives and better the state of the Research Department as a whole.

What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
As an Executive, my goal was, is and always will be, to get Research into a better place where it promotes roleplay and is a good place for new players to start their journey on the server. I am always willing to help other people with their issues to the best of my abilities. If any problems arise, I try to give a realistic view and advice on the matter with some unique ideas to solve the issue. Discussions about the department, what and how to change something to the department’s betterment are necessary for its continued improvement. I have always liked discussing these matters with other Executives or the DoRs in a friendly and open way to not only hear their view but to take it into consideration to make a make a better decision that the rest of the team agree with. Communicating these decisions is one problem that our department currently faces, especially with other departments when it comes to changes that also affect them. A solution would be to give notes to those departments affected or set up a meeting with them to discuss the changes, their outcomes and how they may be altered, taking not only our but also their goal into account. This way, everybody is informed of all planned changes, the effects they will have and that a good compromise has been reached. This is something that I regularly try to achieve, especially regarding CRB which I am the current leader of. While it is still in the phase of recruiting new members, many documents have already been approved, systems for orders or merits have already been set up and some changes have been implemented like the lifting of the sampling limits for all CRB members for example through the help of Site Administration.

What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
The Director of Research is responsible for a multitude of tasks with the management and representation of the Research Department being the most important one. This is done together with the Executive Team of Research to ensure that the best decision will be made. The roleplay inside the Research Department is an important factor which should always be promoted especially by the Directors of Research themselves. When it comes to helping Executive Researchers with issues they cannot handle themselves, the Director of Research is expected to ensure that the issue is resolved in a quick and fair way. The application process for the position of Executive Researcher is primarily handled by the Directors. The Director of Research also acts as the primary point of contact between the Research Department and Site Administration as well as Site Command.

Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:

[Excerpt from Test-24/D81]

It is expected that […] might have a weakening effect on the subject upon injection with small amounts. Further tests might reveal a mechanism behind it which could be taken advantage of for more refined versions fit for future use. Thus said, the test in itself is still dangerous with safety measures being raised accordingly to avoid any [REDACTED] leading to [REDACTED]. In conclusion, the benefits outweigh the possible negatives by a great amount. […]”

[Post-accident Interview – Excerpt 1]

???:
Why did you think this was a good idea in the first place?

Ryan:
You already know why! You read the goddamn document!

???:
Hey, easy. We want you to explain this to us. Personally. How did this, to put it lightly, accident happen in the first place?

Ryan:
Fine…

[Audio Recording – #21/58]

Ryan:
Is the security ready?

Associate Researcher:
Everything is in place, sir.

Ryan:
What about safety measures?

Associate Researcher:
All checked and accounted for. You can begin the test.

Ryan:
Alright, bring it in.

[VOICE INAUDIBLE]

Ryan:
Be careful, guys! We can’t let anything happen to the equipment.

[VOICE INAUDIBLE]

Ryan:
Yes, it is quite fragile so don’t do any hasty movements.

[Post-accident Interview – Excerpt 2]

???:
Until then, it seemed that the test would go smoothly without any issues.

Ryan:
Yes, until… I should have seen it coming.

???:
Seen what coming? Please elaborate.

[Audio Recording – #35/71]

Associate Researcher:
Everything good so far. What else needs to be done?

Ryan:
We must find a suitable place on the subject for the injection to ensure quick internal distribution. Wait, try this spot.

D-████:
This spot? I got you. Here we go.

Ryan:
Good, can you seen anything already?

Associate Researcher:
No, not yet but it might take a few minutes.

Ryan:
May… Wait… Do you see the dark circle around the injection spot?

Associate Researcher:
No, you might be seeing things. I’m sorry.

Ryan:
It’s spreading. Can’t you see that?

[Several dark spots are starting to appear on D-████]

D-████:
Guys, is this supposed to happen?

[Loud screaming could be heard from inside the containment chamber]

Associate Researcher:
Oh my… We have to get him out of there!

Ryan:
No! Don’t open the door!

[Post-accident Interview – Excerpt 3]

???:
So, the researcher opened the security door to the chamber which resulted in the spread of a pathogen, correct?

Ryan:
Yes…

???:
Do you know how the D-Class got infected in the first place?

Ryan:
No… We checked for everything, from our safety protocols to the samples.

???:
Interesting. Do you have any questions before we wrap this up?

Ryan:
What will happen to me now?

???:
I wouldn’t worry about that. You have nothing to fear. Besides, the experiment ended with a clear result.

Ryan:
Which is?

???:
You will see...

[Excerpt from Incident Report – #72/53]

[…] opened the safety door which resulted in contamination of the vicinity and at the end, contamination of over 43% of the entire site as the direct result of an SCP-008 experiment conducted by Exec. Researcher ████ S. Another result of the experiment was the contamination of all SCP-008-2 instances with ███████ which resulted in successful termination of all known instances and traces of SCP-008 after hours which rendered all decontamination efforts obsolete. Further research to refine and use this discovery is waiting for approval. The Associate Researcher has been declared M.I.A. while the leading Researcher has been found alive and well. Investigations regarding the Associate Researcher’s possible affiliations with another Group of Interest are on-going with evidence suggesting strong links to the Chaos Insurgency. […]”
