Why are you applying for Director of Research?:
Many of my fellow executives knew, or know, that I was planning to throw my hat in the ring if one of the current DORs decided to resign or was removed. Now that an open position has become available, I have done what I always do: keep my word. But that’s not my only reason. I often feel like the forgotten executive in many cases, and many of you reading this might not even know I exist—and I am completely okay with that. While I don’t bring this up for pity or attention, I mention it because the few who do remember or know me know that I have great ideas. When it comes to improving the research department, I have plenty of ideas, which is why I want to apply. I believe I can accomplish two things: first, enact meaningful positive change in research, and second, make the department more enjoyable for everyone involved. While the research department is already amazing, I feel there is always room for improvement. Another reason I am applying is that I am here to help. I have always stated that I enjoy helping. When I am on, I don’t sit in the office like a few executives I know do—not that there is anything wrong with that, as they are likely working on something—but you will always see me out and about, talking with the research team, signing documents, discussing tests, teaching new researchers, and so on. The point is, I love to help in any way I can, and I feel the DOR position would allow me to better serve the research department. Finally—but certainly not least—I genuinely enjoy the research department. The opportunity to advance to the top of it, excluding SA and others above, would be a dream come true.
What makes you suitable for Director of Research?:
What makes me suitable for DoR lies in several things. First, I know almost everything there is to know about the research handbook. While that alone doesn’t make me stand out—it’s my job to know it—I mention it because you would be surprised at the number of people on the team who don’t know or haven’t memorized it. Another reason is, as I mentioned earlier, I don’t just sit in the office all day—I actively engage with the research team. While I understand that, if given the opportunity to be DoR, I might not always be able to do so, I will always try my hardest to stay involved. I can also be professional when needed. I want to address an incident that happened not long ago: the document SI found in the E-11 bunks that I made. I bring this up because you might think I am immature or unprofessional because of it. In some sense, you might be right, but here’s my side: it was a joke. Me and a small group of E-11 had downtime, and when something funny happened in TS, I decided to make a lighthearted document to lift morale and make something boring more enjoyable. I am confident that the document glitched, as I saw Sule shred it, and I made sure it was handled because it was meant to be harmless. Do I regret making the document? Yes and no. Yes, I regret putting it on the wall, but no, I don’t regret creating it—it was funny at the time, and everyone could use a laugh. The bottom line is that I am professional, and those who know me can attest to that. While this joke may have upset SI, I hope we can put it behind us and understand my side of the story. Another reason I am suitable is my passion for research and the department. I may be one of the few who feels this way, but I believe the DoR position should be held by someone passionate about research—and I bring that passion, which I am sure my associates can attest to. Finally, whether I am accepted or not, I will always work to make the research department better. That has always been my goal in this department.
What are the responsibilities of the Director of Research in RP?:
In my mind, there are a few responsibilities specific to the DoR, and those responsibilities are as follows: to be the main representative of the research department. The DoR, whether representing how research should proceed or representing the department in meetings with other department leads and such, is the main representative of the department. Another responsibility is to serve as the main line of communication between the department and both SA and 05. They are the primary point of contact when matters need to be brought to the attention of either SA or 05. Another responsibility is to drive change within the department, as they have both the authority and the contacts to make meaningful improvements happen. The final responsibility I can think of off the top of my head is to serve as an example of how things should operate in the research department. As the face of the department, the DoR should lead by example and demonstrate the standards and practices expected from all members.
Please give some lore about your Director of Research character and what storylines they would be involved in:
the lore of Jacob Aldean is as follows: his parents, Jason and Meredith Aldean, were both researchers with the SCP Foundation. From a young age, Jacob was exposed to science—not the knowledge of the SCP Foundation, but regular science, mainly chemistry. Growing up, Jacob was an honors student and eventually got into Harvard to major in chemistry. It was at that point that the Foundation took notice of him and had him recruited, where he started out as a Jr. Researcher and slowly made his way up the ranks due to his impressive skills in both research and chemistry. However, tragedy struck when Jacob and his father Jason were researching SCP-682. Jason fell into 682’s containment chamber and was devoured. From that day on, Jacob vowed both to seek revenge for his father and to continue the research his father had begun. Years later, after becoming an executive researcher, Jacob continued to expand his studies. While he started in chemicals, he gradually lost interest in that field and found new areas of research, such as SCP-008, which he had previously known nothing about. He also continued his research on the destruction of SCP-682 to avenge his father. While he has not succeeded so far, he feels that he is getting closer, and with the resources at his disposal, he now feels more determined than ever to destroy this nearly indestructible reptile.
